Before you take your loved ones onto the water, accomplish these three important tasks.
Complete a course in boat safety.
Successfully completing a boating safety course is imperative, particularly for new boat owners. Although boating is fun, it's also complicated. There are many technical considerations as well as other numerous matters about which boaters must be knowledgeable in order to assure not only their own safety, but also the safety of their passengers, their craft and their fellow boaters.
Take care of the title, registration and insurance.
After you've bought your boat, registering it, as well as re-titling it and the trailer if necessary, is imperative. State requirements vary, so check with your Department of Motor Vehicles regarding fees, stickers and insurance mandates. Pay any required taxes, and apply the required stickers. Most importantly, don't go on the water without first purchasing insurance to protect you, your loved ones and your property. Full compliance with the law is the first step to fun, safe boating.
