When you take part in sailing events or are out on the water it is of great importance that you wear a life jacket, but, what caused them to be developed into a necessary piece of kit. Maritime disasters are not something new, there has been significant loss of life at sea since man built the first boat but what has changed significantly has been the our approach to life and death and the value placed on each individuals life.
